Last Recorded Action: Senate 1/3/2018 – Read 1st time & referred to Committee on Agriculture

Location: Senate Committee on Agriculture

Subject: Agriculture; pesticides; prohibition; chlorpyrifos; dicamba

Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to prohibit the sale, use, or application of the pesticide chlorpyrifos. The bill would also prohibit the sale, use, or application of a pesticide containing the herbicide dicamba.

(of waterbody concern – Chlorpyrifos is used on crop lands and sticks to the soil and may wash into rivers or streams if erosion moves the treated soil. The pesticide is hazardous to human health, very toxic to birds bees, earthworms, fish and aquatic invertebrates and may build up in the tissues of fish and other animals that eat smaller animals. Dicamba does not bind to soil particles and is highly soluble in water. It is therefore highly mobile in the soil and may contaminate groundwater.)
