New Tools for Lake Health
On September 10th, 2025, the Federation of Vermont Lakes and Ponds held our Annual Meeting and it was a great success! Co-sponsored by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, Watershed Management Division, Lakes and Ponds Program.
The meeting began with the business portion of the meeting, followed by a number of interesting presentations and discussions, including:
- Highlights from the year – an update on FOVLAP’s activities and accomplishments
- A Lakes and Pond Program update – Jenny Austin, Lakes and Ponds Manager
- Lake reports from lake associations
- Presentations on New Tools for Lake Health:
– Caffeine as a Proxy for Failing Septic Systems: Mark Mitchell, Vermont Lay Monitoring Program Lead
– Life in Little Glass Houses: Diatoms as Bioindicators of Environmental Change: Lindsey Cookson – Water and Science Program Coordinator for the Lake Champlain Committee, LCC
