Lake Aging and the Role of Enhanced Wakes
We are excited to share this excellent video presentation by Dr. Timothy James, professor at Queens University, Ontario. As we have seen in Vermont, wake surfing has grown in popularity thanks to advanced wake-generating technology, with specially designed boats creating large, surfable wakes.
In this engaging 11 minute video entitled, “Lake Aging and the Role of Enhanced Wakes”, Dr. James clearly and succinctly explains how these boats can cause significant environmental harm, including shoreline erosion, sediment disturbance, nutrient loading, and the spread of invasive species, as well as safety risks for other lake users. Growing concerns highlight the need for sustainable enjoyment of wake surfing to protect lakes and their ecosystems.
