Golden clam, Corbicula fluminea, previously referred to as Asian clam, was confirmed in Lake Champlain in October. Golden clam is native to the eastern Mediterranean and Asia, and can crowd out native species and increase occurrences of cyanobacteria blooms. Read more about the find here.

In Vermont, golden clam is known from Lake Bomoseen; it was first confirmed in the lake in 2016 and is established.
