Green Up Day is May 2!
Green Up Day is a statewide volunteer day for cleaning up roadside litter. Annually 427 tons of litter is cleaned from 97.5% of all city and roads by over 25,000 volunteers. It may seem like one day isn’t enough, and sadly it is not, but there is a pride that is nurtured and a protective camaraderie that grows out of this service to our environment. The actions of volunteers is growing and the amount of litter has decreased over our 55 years.
One crucial piece of our work is to remove the litter from roadsides and ditches so it is not carried into our rivers, streams, and ultimately lakes and ponds.
FOVLAP Board Member, Jerremy Jones, and the Lake Saint Catherine Association has been working the past several years on Green Up Day, and they have increased participation each year in the two towns surrounding the lake. In 2025 they were able to clean up every road around their lake and additional roads in Wells and Poultney. See photos and get inspired here!
